Intel Tiger Lake Mobile Processors Unveiled - New Hope Against AMD

And while everything looks interesting
Intel has leaked materials on the announcement of Tiger Lake mobile processors scheduled for today. Moreover, they merged the entire huge document with many graphs, diagrams and various details.

Since there has not been an announcement yet, we will focus only on the main thing - new processors. There are nine in total.

CPU # Of cores / threads Frequencies, GHz # Of GPU Blocks GPU frequency, GHz Cache memory, MB TDP, W

Core i7-1185G7 4/8 3.0-4.8 96 1.35 12 12-28
Core i7-1165G7 4/8 2.8-4.7 96 1.3 12 12-28
Core i5-1135G7 4/8 2.4-4.2 80 1.3 8 12-28
Core i3-1125G4 4/8 2.0-3.7 48 1.25 8 12-28
Core i3-1115G4 2/4 3.0-4.1 48 1.25 6 12-28
Core i7-1160G7 4/8 1.2-4.4 96 1.1 12 7-15
Core i5-1130G7 4/8 1.1-4.0 80 1.1 8 7-15
Core i3-1120G4 4/8 1.1-3.5 48 1.1 8 7-15
Core i3-1110G4 2/4 1.8-3.9 48 1.1 6 7-15

So, the Tiger Lake line at the start includes five energy-efficient processors and four ultra-energy efficient ones, although in this generation Intel again raised the power limits, so now this division is rather arbitrary.

Almost all models are quad-core, with the exception of the Core i3-1110G4 and Core i3-1115G4 - they are dual-core. Moreover, Core i3 can be with four cores, which will obviously confuse users who are not particularly versed in the matter.

The new Xe graphics core can be in three configurations: with 48, 80 and 96 execution units. In terms of power consumption, regular Tiger Lake-U can now have TDPs in the 12-28W range, and Tiger Lake-Y can now have 7-15W. That is, the latter, under certain conditions, can have a power limit of 15 W, and this is already the level that is usual for conventional energy-efficient models. As a result, the choice of laptops can be even more complicated.

It is also worth noting the significantly increased frequencies compared to Ice Lake. This was achieved both thanks to the improved process technology, although it is still 10 nm, and thanks to the new Willow Cove architecture.

In terms of performance, Intel claims the top GPU Xe in the Core i7-1185G7 is 67% faster than the Vega 8 in the Ryzen 7 4800U, but that's in the benchmark. If we talk about games, depending on the project, the difference can range from 5-7% to 50%. And in general, you can believe it. But what I can't believe is Intel's claims that four Core i7-1185G7 processor cores are faster than eight Ryzen 7 4800U cores. But everything is simple here. Intel is basically comparing again in applications that are useless from this point of view, such as Word, PowerPoint and synthetic benchmarks.
