This step is being taken in the name of "national security". Apps owned by China's Tencent and ByteDance will not only be banned from US app stores. Also, companies are prohibited from using hosting in the United States.

US Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross said on this occasion:

" Today's actions prove once again that President Trump is doing everything in his power to keep our nation safe and protect Americans from the threat of the Chinese Communist Party. ”

The ban on hosting services in the United States will take effect on September 20 for WeChat and November 12 for TikTok, as well as the use of their functions and code in software or services developed or available in the United States.

A few days earlier, Microsoft officially announced that it was no longer a bidder for the purchase of the social network TikTok in the United States - its offer was rejected by ByteDance, the owner of TikTok.
