The company ZTE today unveiled the first commercial smartphone with hidden underneath the screen front camera - Axon 20 5G. Live photos of the novelty show that the proposed solution is still far from ideal.

Earlier, company representatives confirmed that the upcoming ZTE Axon 20 5G smartphone uses third-generation sub-screen camera technology. In photographs, the area of the screen with the camera can be easily distinguished, it stands out noticeably against the background of the rest of the image.

Xiaomi also showed a similar development and even a working smartphone with third-generation sub-screen camera technology, but the appearance of such a Xiaomi model in stores is expected only next year.

As we can see in the photo, Xiaomi's "third generation" technology is noticeably better than ZTE's "third generation" technology. The development of ZTE corresponds to the level, rather, of last year's second generation Xiaomi technology.
Today, China has already started accepting pre-orders for the ZTE Axon 20 5G priced at $322 for the version with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal flash memory, $366 for the version with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of flash memory, and $410 for the version with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of flash memory. Open sales will begin on September 10th.
