The creation of a similar technology was reported by engineers from Australia, who demonstrated a glove capable of transmitting tactile sensations at any distance.
Each time a person touches an object, he receives a certain set of tactile sensations. As it turned out, such a reaction can be imitated by means of vibrations. Scientists at the University of New South Wales (Australia) have created a three-way glove-shaped skin stimulator capable of transmitting touch and other sensations for miles.
“The human hand has a large number of tactile receptors and is both an interesting and challenging area for coding information through tactile stimulation. There are many situations in which the sensation of touch would be beneficial: for example, in a telemedicine consultation, the doctor cannot physically examine the patient. We wanted to solve this problem, ”the engineers tell about their work.
One of the most interesting features of the new glove will be the ability to convey an immersive tactile sensation. Each finger has built-in artificial muscles that generate pressure or vibration, allowing the user to feel the touch of another person wearing the same glove. For a shared session, the devices must be synced. It has not yet been possible to create a universal glove. So, one of them is only able to broadcast sensations, and the second - to receive them.
