In February 2019, Hewlett-Packard Development filed a patent application with the World Intellectual Property Office. A patent entitled "Electronic Display Devices" was approved on August 13, 2020, and describes the technology needed to implement flexible electronic displays in mobile devices.

The patent images show a flip phone (similar to the Motorola RAZR and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip) with a wide hinge. Using patent images, LetsGoDigital has created a series of 3D renders that give you a better view of the device.

The flip phone from HP has a flat foldable OLED screen. The documentation describes the problems associated with using flexible display. When folded, the length of the inner surface changes relative to the outer surface. This means that with active use of the smartphone, there is a risk of damaging even the flexible display.

To solve this problem, HP wants to use an extensible structure that gets thicker under pressure.

After the Elite X3, HP never released a new smartphone. The main reason for this was the decline of the Windows Phone platform.
