Xiaomi is the first to show an almost perfect under screen selfie camera, here are the samples

The screen above the camera has the same color, gamma and brightness characteristics as the entire display.

Xiaomi just showed, and ZTE is already releasing a smartphone with an almost perfect sub-screen camera.

Xiaomi developed the first generation of sub-screen camera technology in June 2019 . We were shown the prototype in action, but close inspection confirmed that the display in the camera area is not perfect and the pixel density is very low.

Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun announced that the second generation was ready in October 2019. And today he showed off the third generation of the sub-screen camera, which in his opinion is almost perfect and comparable in quality to conventional selfie cameras.

Xiaomi is the first to show an almost perfect camera under the screen camera phone.

Lei Jun said that in the first two generations they managed to make the display above the front camera transparent, sacrificing pixel density in this area. In fact, the pixel density of the display above the camera was half that of the rest of the OLED panel. This was done so that the screen could transmit enough light for the image sensor.

However, in the new generation, the company used a self-developed pixel arrangement, in which light does not pass through the disabled pixels, but into the gaps between them. In addition, the company doubled the pixel count in both the vertical and horizontal directions, bringing the density to the same level as the rest of the screen. The screen above the camera has the same color, gamma, and brightness characteristics as the entire display.

Xiaomi claims that its sub-screen camera is capable of delivering the same image quality as conventional selfie cameras. This makes this solution "almost perfect".

The first Xiaomi smartphone with such a camera will hit the market next year. Probably, it will be Xiaomi Mi 11.
